"The Rev. Everardus Bogardus was pastor of the First Reformed Dutch Church at New Amsterdam. He arrived in New York April 1633 on the Southberry from Holland. He sailed from New York, August 16, 1647 on the ship Princess for the Fatherland and was shipwrecked and lost with 178 other passengers in the Bristol Channel off the coast of Wales, September 27, 1647." Description copied with permission from the website o f Roy Ernst Kierstead. Image supplied by Ted Holz.

While I don't believe we (TEACHOUTs, TIETSORTs, TITSWORTHs, et al) are descended from Everardus Bogardus, it's entirely possible he presided at the wedding of Abraham Willemszen and Aeghtje Janse in April, 1647 - just prior to his ill-fated journey.

This manuscript was scanned and the resultant file edited by Janet Lamb, Sister of Mercy, who then graciously provided me with an ASCII file of her pages.

We want this document to be as exact a copy of the original as we can get. When we are finished with the proofreading, I will make a text version and make it downloadable from here.

After that is accomplished, I hope to add links from one place to another in the document, and to additional information provided by members of the Dutch Uncle discussion list and by the public at large.

Additional information submitted for inclusion in the final product MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A VALID SOURCE CITATION. (Please do not submit data at this time - we have some work to do first.)

Please help us proofread these pages. Submit ANY corrections, suggestions, notification of typos, what all to fleet@teachout.org
or to the Dutch Uncle discussion list (members only).
